Information on Sabbatical Leave – 2013

TO: Ministry Personnel and all Members within the Montreal Presbytery

FROM: Joint Sabbatical Leave Committee

DATE: March 1, 2012

Sabbatical Leave time is an occasion to praise God…

From Hildegarde of Bingen (1098-1179)

"The marvels of God are not brought forth from one’s self. Rather, it is more like a chord, a sound that is played. The tone does not come out of the chord itself, but rather, through the touch of the musician…"

"Praise God with a sound….." (Psalm 150)

The Joint Sabbatical Leave Committee, which is a joint committee of both Montreal Presbytery and the Finance & Extension Board, is presently inviting requests for sabbatical leaves from ministry personnel for 2013. If this is in your future plans, please contact Renate Sutherland - Chair, at 514-695-1970 (e-mail graeme.renate@sympatico.ca) and/or submit a preliminary proposal to the Joint Sabbatical Committee by June 1, 2012. This preliminary proposal should include a plan, the reasons for requesting sabbatical leave, and time lines. It is advisable that interested candidates will have already approached key persons of their employing units. The Committee will review all preliminary proposals and meet with candidates before the end of June 2012.

The selected candidates will be invited to submit a more detailed proposal, including an anticipated budget, in person at a second meeting of the Committee in early September 2012. The Chair of the Presbytery’s Ministry and Employment Policies and Services Committee will also be present at that meeting. Candidates should be accompanied by representatives of their employing units. The Committee will notify successful applicants before the end of 2012. The time line is being adhered to in order to allow the Committee and successful candidate(s) sufficient time to make the necessary arrangements with the employing unit(s) to find replacement personnel and finalize personal details.
