THE NOMINATIONS PROCESS SET OUT BY THE MONTREAL PRESBYTERY TO NOMINATE COMMISSIONERS FOR ELECTION BY MONTREAL AND OTTAWA CONFERENCE TO the 41st GENERAL COUNCIL MEETING
In our ongoing effort to find the best people to fill the available positions, the Nominating Committee recommends the following criteria be met for the nomination of commissioners to the General Council.
1. Each presbytery has been asked to forward 4 names to Conference by May 15th 2012 There are four positions available, 1 male ordered; 1 female ordered; 1 male lay and 1 female lay. Note that “ministry” for this purpose includes anyone in paid accountable ministry including ordained ministers and diaconal ministers and DLM’s. One nominee should be under 30 years of age. Nominees must be members of a church within the bounds of conference, or serving such a church or mission. (There is a separate process for nominating additional Youth and Young adult representatives)
2. Individuals provide a short bio indicating why they want to go the General Council; what issues they feel passionate about; and what concerns need to be addressed and brought before Conference and the General Council; as well as any experience they may have as commissioners or members of a General Council committee. This bio must accompany the nomination form.
3. There is a reasonable expectation that they can fulfill a three year Commitment 2012- 2015 and provide an active link to the General Council on behalf of Montreal and Ottawa conference.
4. The successful individuals will help the Presbytery formulate issues and concerns and promote the work and the voice of the Presbytery to the Conference and General, Council.
5. The nominating process requires that two persons nominate an individual with signature of agreement; Nominations are to be submitted to the Presbytery office by March 1, 2012 and to the attention of the Nominations Committee. The nomination of the Commissioners will take place on March 13, 2012 at the regularly scheduled Presbytery meeting.
6. The conference nominating committee will present a slate of 23 names (12 from among the 20 nominated by presbyteries, 3 Youth and Young Adults, 3 from among nominations on the floor and 5 ex-officio) for confirmation at Conference. Others will be retained as alternate commissioners. Nominees must be present at the annual meeting of the Montreal and Ottawa Conference in May 2012
